Create embellished clay tiles, creative containers, and flat decorative works in clay. Explore texture, form and function and a variety of surface treatments. Students will learn to impress, cut-out and create texture in clay, as well as learn joining techniques and surface design. Clay will be air dried and embellished with a variety of paints, wire, feathers, beads and other materials. Explore a variety of drawing approaches, using collage, drawing in inks, charcoal, pencil and pastels. Hone your deep looking skills, learn to create dramatic light and shade, create a variety of line and shading techniques and expand your creative expression. Create colourful stenciled banners and decorated bags for your treasures. Using a variety of stencils, paints, pastels and other materials, students will explore colour mixing and the joy of stenciling on paper and fabric. Simple stitching will be taught for hanging artworks. We will also explore creating and cutting our own stencils. Youth, Adults and Seniors welcome. The drum is a part of native heritage for tribal cultures all over the world. In this workshop you will be supplied with everything you need to create your own 14" diameter elk- hide drum and drum stick. This single sided drum is crafted using a wooden hoop and a stretched rawhide and lacing that serves as a hand hold. Greg will also give you instructions on how to care for your drum.Register
Metis Artist Pat Calihou will guide you to make your very own 20" Metis-style paddle with traditional woodworking hand tools and techniques.This is a unique workshop to learn about Metis people and culture through a hands-on activity. All materials and supplies will be provided including oil for sealing finished paddles and paint, if you have time left over to customize your paddle. This is also offered as a two day class.Register
In this course you will learn how to make a simple sun catcher using the copper foil method. You will learn how to cut glass, use a glass grinder, and learn how to solder. At the end of the course you will have a completed 6" sun catcher. Additional material fee of $15 to be paid to the instructor the day of the workshop.Register
Learn how to dye and create patterns and textures on natural fiber fabrics using shibori resist dyeing methods and reactive dyes. The techniques explored will include arashi, itajime, and ne-maki shibori. Course supply fee is $20. Please pay the instructor. Students must bring their own fabric.Register
